LEADERS:
There were a few changes of leaders over the past 12 months, Samantha ‘Kangaroo’ Denham left due to work commitments. We welcomed Brett ‘Cockatoo’ Discher.
PROGRAM:
Each term Joeys work on their participation badges, Environment, Caring and Sharing, Adventure and Buddy Badge.
HIGHLIGHTS:
Term 2 – Cu-Jo games is when Joey & Cubs join forces and meet for a weekend of fun. The theme was Bush Olympics. We printed shirts for our team uniform and painted a cardboard mascot, took some large games to share with the other cubs for ‘games night’. Everyone was well behaved and worked as a team, as a result we won the Skip and Sybil Chalmers Trophy.
Term 3 – Kennedy Region Camp “In the Jungle” Our group worked with ‘The Phantom’ as our theme with our gate way of Skull Cave made by the Ventures, with the Joey and Cub Scouts helping out with the accessory pieces, including The Phantom doing the scout sign. This joint effort was visually effective and won us best gate way voted by the other groups of the region. If you are at the Tarmaroo camp site I believe that Venturers camp site has adopted the skull for their gateway.
Cultural Fest is always a highlight on so many different levels. The Joeys learnt about Helping Other People. They learnt about other cultures and showed themselves what getting into the community is all about.
We went geocaching along the Ross River on an Adventure to find hidden treasures. Joeys really enjoyed putting technology and real life together.
At the Region Regatta we had Dad’s come in and help build the boats for under the sea theme. Joeys won the strongest boat.
For our break up we joined in with the Cub Scouts and visited Billabong Sanctuary. We had 2 Joeys link into Cubs at this outing.
Term 4 – We buddied up with Charters Towers Joey Mob, for our buddy badge. Joeys wrote their Mob Code, as part of the breaking the cycle, anti-bullying program. This is displayed on the wall. We were also very excited to have the police dogs come and visit. The police officer showed Joeys some of the equipment that he had to train his dog Fynn and spoke to them about some of the requirements of his job.
For our break up we buddied up with the Cub Scouts for a sleep over at Reef HQ.
Term 1 – We looked after our environment by cleaning up Pallaranda beach on clean up Australia Day, with the whole group. The biggest highlight for the was our annual Toad Day Out Camp, we invited Cubs to join us. This year our toadal haulage was 22kg with our heaviest toad weigh in at 225 grams.
Term 2 –Mum’s were invited to Joeys for the night for Mother’s Day. The Joeys became fashion designers and dressed mum up in the most amazing designs (made from newspaper) for the biannual fashion parade. We made some cat toys and dog biscuits and donated them to Townsville homeless cats & dogs. We reviewed our Mob Code, and signed. For our break up we were invited to a Cub Scout meeting for a Pack Attack. We learnt about what Cubs do, the Jungle book stories and some of the things that Baden Powell taught the Scouts when he took them to Brownsea Island for the 1st Scout camp.
Promise Challenge Badge
The Promise Challenge badge is the first badge that a Joey Scout earns as an individual. The following Joeys Scouts completed their Promise Challenge badge.
