LEADERS:
There were a few changes of leaders over the past 12 months. At the end of last year we said goodbye to Joanne Cowie Shada as a leader. We welcome Fraser Cumming Bagheera who has returned from Victoria as a Leader.
PROGRAM:
Cub Scouts work on Boomerang Badge work on their meeting nights. There are three levels for different ages, Bronze, Silver & Gold.
HIGHLIGHTS:
Term 3 – Kennedy Region Camp “Game On” Our group worked with the monopoly board as our gateway, Ventures built the pieces, the Joey and Cub Scouts helping with the board, This joint effort was visually effective and won us best gate way, voted by the other groups of the region.
Cubs reviewed and updated their Pack Code, which is part of the breaking the cycle, antibullying program. For our break up we invited Dad’s to come in and show off their knotting skills. They helped Cubs make survival bracelets.
Term 4 – Cubs worked on their Art & Design and International Culture badges. We built our cardboard boats ready for the Region Regatta. Unfortunately this was canceled due to bad weather. So our efforts were not wasted we had our own boat races at the den.
For break up Cubs joined in the Jambowlree. This is an event that is run every year by an overseas group. Scouts from all over the world go bowling and enter their scores. Results came in just recently and our Cub Scouts came 54th. Well done.
Term 1 – We looked after our environment by planting trees and picking up rubbish with Land Care for Clean up Australia Day.
We had 10 Cubs attended Cub Scout Leadership Course. For our break up we went rock climbing at the Upper Ross PCYC.
Term 2 – Last weekend of the school holidays we had a Pack Holiday in Oak Valley. This was a 2 night camp. Cubs completed all their outdoor Scouting skills for their relevant boomerang level. Learning about compass & navigation, maps & hiking, outdoor cooking. We invited the
local rural fire brigade demonstrate fire safety to the Cub Scouts. We were also fortunate enough to have a bonfire, this really demonstrated the dangers of fire and how hot it really can become. We marched along the Strand for ANZAC day and completed a JOTT (Jamboree on the Trail)
hike along the Ross River, Cu Jo games is a camp held at the Ingham Show grounds and hosted by the Ingham Scout group. Cub and Joey Scouts from both Kennedy and Far North Region are invited to attend. Everyone had an amazing time, we attended as the Purple Panda Pirates, with our team uniform, mascot and banner. A big thank you to Racheal Spalding for assisting us with the art work.
Cub Region camp was canceled this year, so we had another Pack Holiday in Oak Valley. We invited the Charters Towers Cub Scouts to come and join us to achieve their Bush Craft & Codes & Signals Level 1 badges. Every one was well behaved and all achieved their badges. Charters Towers Cubs had so much fun they have expressed interest in inviting us to have a Pack Holiday with them. For our break up we invited the Joeys for a Pack Attack. We all dressed up in fantastical, magical, and mysterious costumes, played games, made dragon breathe and arm pit fudge!
Grey Wolf Award
The Grey Wolf Award is the highest badge that a Cub Scout can earn. The following Cub Scouts completed this award. Congratulations for your hard work and dedication:
Hannah Buchanan, Tyler Cowie, Marian Edwards, Joshua Crawford, Stella Spiteri and Theo Quaresmini will complete his in the comings weeks.
Pack Growth
Over the past year we have had 9 Cubs link up into Scouts, 5 Joeys link into Cubs, 6 new chums sign up and are still currently in the section. Currently we have 21 registered Cub Scouts.
At the start of the 2017 year Timothy Kaa Gibbons Cub Scout Branch Commissioner, Queensland set a challenge for Cub Scouts. During the year we were to complete various tasks. Some of these tasks were easy, others very challenging. I am very proud to announce that the
Pimlico Mundingburra Cub Scout Pack completed this challenge and has received a certificate of participation. There is a challenge list displayed on the Cub wall if you are interested in reviewing. Without the leaders and parent support these achievements would not have been possible so I would like to take this time to say THANKYOU.
